PETALING JAYA: Police have arrested six men believed to be involved in a cable theft syndicate linked to a viral incident in Seksyen 2, Shah Alam.
Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Ramsay Embol said the arrests were made during operations conducted around the Klang Valley between May 4 and May 9.
“The suspects, aged between 26 and 40, were detained between 3am and 2.05am.
“Checks found that all of them have between seven and 31 past records related to crime and drugs,” he said in a statement on Sunday (May 10).
ACP Ramsay said four of the suspects also tested positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine during the arrests.
Police also seized a four-wheel-drive vehicle, equipment believed to have been used to steal cables, as well as three rolls of Telekom Malaysia cables.
He said the arrests were the result of investigations by the Shah Alam district police headquarters’ Criminal Investigation Department (D4), with assistance from the crime prevention unit of the Seksyen 9 police station and the Selangor police contingent headquarters CID.
“The successful arrest of this criminal group is believed to have helped solve several other cable theft cases within Selangor,” he said.
The case is being investigated under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft, which carries a jail term of up to seven years, or a fine, or both upon conviction.
Investigations are also being conducted under Section 235 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998, which provides a fine of up to RM300,000, imprisonment of up to three years, or both, if convicted.
Those with information can contact investigating officer Insp Mohammad Amirul Zulkifli at 012-558 3436.
