Cycling groups should limit number of cyclists to 50, says Perak deputy police chief

IPOH: Those who want to hold large cycling events should keep the number of participants to around 50 during the recovery movement control order (MCO), says Perak deputy police chief Deputy Comm Datuk Goh Boon Keng.

“Under the law, there’s no limit to the number of participants.

“But, I would recommend about 50 bicycles, ” he told reporters after attending a Buddhist prayers programme here on Friday (Sept 18).

DCP Goh's remarks came following reports that in Perlis people who would like to cycle in a large group would need to get permission from the police.

“Organisers are also needed to inform the police of group activities for safety purposes and as required under the Peaceful Assembly Act, ” he said.

However, smaller groups would not need to seek approval, he added.

He also advised cyclists to move in a line.

“I also cycle, and I choose roads or areas with less traffic. I would cycle on roads with bicycle lanes like Jalan Lim Bo Seng and near the D.R. Seenivasagam recreational park, ” DCP Goh added.
