PETALING JAYA: The authorities have detained 68 individuals for flouting the recovery movement control order (MCO) standard operating procedures (SOPs) such as not wearing face masks or failing to record personal details.

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob (pic) said out of the 68 individuals detained Tuesday (Sept 15), 66 were slapped with compounds while two others were remanded.

"Among the offences committed included flouting the enhanced MCO (21), failing to record personal details (18), not wearing face masks (18), failing to do social distancing (six), failing to settle quarantine bills (three) and also illegal immigrants (two)," the Defence Minister said in a statement Wednesday (Sept 16).

The Government's Ops Benteng on Tuesday (Sept 15) also detained 120 illegal immigrants and two skippers.

Three boats and four land vehicles were also seized in the operation, said Ismail Sabri.

"The police arrested nine illegal immigrants for entering Malaysia at Pengkalan Kubor, Kelantan and the army detained five illegal immigrants for not possessing any valid documents at Teluk Penawar in Johor," he said.

He said that 79 roadblocks were erected as part of Ops Benteng on Tuesday (Sept 15).

"The Government will continue to take stern action against anyone trying to enter the country illegally. Enforcement agencies will continue to tighten the borders especially the rat lanes," he said.
