Baby found dumped on porch roof in Ipoh

IPOH: A baby boy with his umbilical cord still attached was found alive on the roof of a porch in Bercham here, and it is believed that he was thrown out from a top-floor window of a nearby double-story house.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the newborn is believed to have been thrown out from a window by his 16-year-old mother.

“The baby was found on top of the porch of a neighbour’s house. The distance between the mother's room and the neighbor's porch was about 9m," he said.

ACP A. Asmadi said the baby suffered a critical head injury and is currently receiving treatment at the neonatal intensive care unit of the Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital.

“Our initial investigation showed the mother moved here from Batu Caves about a month ago. Her mother and two siblings were not aware she was pregnant. She only told her mother that she was menstruating," he said.

"We have yet to get further statement from her as she is currently in the operating room at the same hospital after losing blood from giving birth. We also found traces of blood at the window frame of her bedroom as well as on the bedsheet," added ACP A. Asmadi
