PUTRAJAYA: The Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) experienced more than 100 delays from January 2017 to January 2019, according to the third series of the Auditor-General's Report 2018.
The report noted that there were 137 incidents of delayed arrival of the Electric Trains (ET) of between five minutes to 110 minutes which can affect users' satisfaction.
It said that the delay was due to equipment damage and its operation systems.
The frequency of delay periods of one to 10 minutes involved 71 cases, the report stated.
"The cause of the delay, among those are, the problems with the Automatic Platform Gate (APG) that caused the ET to not stop at its designated station, the slow pace of the ET due to brake damage, and the Region Automatic Train Operation (RATO) problems.
"Delays in ET arrivals affect consumers’ satisfaction," stated the report which was released on Tuesday (July 14).
The report noted that the train delays received also the highest complaints which is 688 (33.3%) out of 2,067 complaints based on the monthly complaint report submitted by the Prasarana Contact Center Unit (CCU) to Rapid Rail from Dec 16,2016, to Jan 31,2019.
Separately, the report also stated that as of January 2020,85 damages to the trains have not been repaired although the Defect Liability Period (DLP) had expired for 182 days.
"The prolonged time taken to repair the damage on the trains affects the execution of maintenance work and the optimum usage of the assets," it said.
