Luxury sports car hit with ‘petrol bomb’

KUALA LUMPUR: The fire which damaged a luxury sports car at Pavilion Residences here may have been the result of arson.

Sources said CCTV recordings revealed two men on a motorcycle throwing liquid, believed to be petrol, at the yellow Lamborghini on the first floor of the parking area.

“The CCTV footage showed two men wearing helmets and face masks throwing a bottle at the front of the vehicle before it caught fire.

“Forensic teams from the police and the Fire and Rescue Department recovered a bottle with remnants of liquid believed to be petrol and a box of matches near the vehicle, ” the source said yesterday.

It is learnt that the vehicle belonged to a businessman who has a company based in Langkawi.

Dang Wangi OCPD Asst Comm Fahmi Visuvanathan Abdullah said police were looking into all angles of the case.

“We received a report on the vehicle. We are investigating every possible lead, ” he said.

Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Mohd Rozi Jusoh said the department received a call at 2.40am yesterday.

“The fire damaged about 40% of the car, including the engine, ” he said.
