Trio detained over illegal cockfighting in Sibu


SIBU: Police have arrested three men for illegal cockfighting at an open space in Pulau Kerto near here on Friday (June 19).

Sibu Deputy OCPD Supt Collin Babat said a team from its Anti-Vice, Gambling and Gangsterism unit (D7) nabbed the suspects, aged between 32 and 34, during the 4.30pm incident.

"The team managed to arrest the three suspects while some others ran away," he said.

Supt Collin said the suspects were two construction workers and a jobless man.

He added that police also seized a live rooster, a dead rooster, RM60, a cockfighting spur and a notice board.

Supt Collin said the suspects have been placed in the Sibujaya police lockup for investigation under Section 3(1) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (Ayam Sabong) 1962 and Section 7(2) of the Common Gambling House Act 1953.
