Comprehensive strategies needed to tackle crime, says expert

PETALING JAYA: Crime in Malaysia is closely tied to the country's economic progress and tackling the problem will require comprehensive strategies, says crime researcher Assoc Prof Baharom Abdul Hamid.

His study of the country's crime statistics from 1973 to 2003 found that certain types of crimes, including armed robbery and motorcycle theft, go up in tandem with strong economic growth.
