Malaysia Airlines resuming flights

PETALING JAYA: Resumption of international flights by Malaysia Airlines Bhd next month will allow families to unite with loved ones after separation due to travel restrictions in many parts of the world.

The national air carrier has increased domestic connectivity this month and will resume some of its international flights as nations begin to lift border restrictions.

“Passengers are, however, reminded to check entry and exit requirements before their journey with travel restrictions remaining in place in most countries, ” the company said in a statement.

Malaysia Airlines said it would adjust network capacity from time to time to ensure that passenger demand was met before the normalisation of domestic and international flight schedules and destinations this October.

Its chief executive officer Captain Izham Ismail said: “The airline is looking forward to welcoming passengers onboard following the resumption of services and increase in capacity.

“We shall continue to ensure their safety, health and comfort by introducing new initiatives aligned with international safety and health protocols as part of our commitment to offer passengers peace of mind throughout their journey with us.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank our customers for their continued support and confidence in Malaysia Airlines throughout these challenging times, ” he added.

Malaysia Airlines has also released a special video on its social media platforms titled “Ready to fly and rediscover Malaysia” in conjunction with the government’s recent announcement on interstate travel.

“We hope that by showcasing unique and beautiful domestic attractions located across Malaysia, we can inspire local travellers to explore the beauty of our homeland and boost local tourism efforts, ” said Izham.

For the months of June and July, there will be two flights weekly between Kuala Lumpur and Alor Setar, Johor Baru, Kota Baru, Langkawi, Terengganu, Labuan, Miri, Sandakan and Tawau.

Flights from Kuala Lumpur to Kuantan, Bintulu and Sibu will take off once a week.

There will be three flights weekly between Kuala Lumpur and Penang and Kuching in June, with flights between Kuala Lumpur and Kuching increased to five times a week beginning July.

International flights between Kuala Lumpur and Dhaka, Kathmandu, London, Osaka, Narita, Incheon, Hong Kong, Perth, Denpasar, Phuket and Cambodia will take off twice weekly starting in July.

However, the twice-per-week flights to Melbourne will only be from July 1 to July 18, while flights to Sydney will be for five days from July 1 to July 5.

Following this, flights from Kuala Lumpur to Melbourne and Sydney will be once per week.

Flights between Kuala Lumpur and Chennai, Hyderabad, Mumbai, Bangalore, Cochin, Sri Lanka, Taipei, Guangzhou, Adelaide, Brisbane as well as Surabaya will be once a week.

There will be three flights weekly for the KL-Manila route, four flights weekly for KL-Jakarta/Bangkok and five flights per week for KL- Singapore.

Following the Covid-19 outbreak, the airline had implemented various enhanced safety measures and protocols to be extended to the Malaysia Airlines Golden Lounge, which is scheduled to reopen on July 1.

Passengers looking for flights to return home on Malaysia Airlines may book their tickets on Malaysia Airlines’ official website at https://www.malaysiaairlines.com/my/en.html or via Malaysia Airlines’ app with some departure dates available for booking.

The flight schedules are available on the Malaysia Airlines website, and passengers are urged to perform online or mobile check-in to reduce interaction and avoid queues at the airport, especially those travelling on domestic and regional routes.
