Abdul Latif takes over as new Customs DG

PETALING JAYA: Datuk Abdul Latif Abdul Kadir has been appointed as the new director-general of the Customs Department.

The appointment of the 59-year-old will take effect beginning Friday (June 5), according to a statement by Chief Secretary to the Government Datuk Seri Mohd Zuki Ali.

Zuki said Latif first served in the civil service in 1985 as a Customs enforcer, at the Customs Department's headquarters.

Latif was also the previous Customs Department deputy director-general (enforcement and compliance) and state Customs director, said Zuki.

"I believe that with his experience, knowledge, and credibility, Latif will be able to continue the aspirations of the Customs Department to become a world-class Customs administration.

"On behalf of the government, I would like to put on record my appreciation to Datuk Seri Paddy Abd Halim for his service to the country as a civil servant for 37 years," he said.
