Fight between two groups escalates at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital

IPOH: A fight involving a group of people at a housing area here escalated at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital when two women involved in a fight were seeking treatment separately here.

In the 4pm incident on Tuesday (May 19), a 32-year-old woman and a 40 year-old woman were leaving after seeking treatment when the older woman’s husband and friends crossed path with the younger woman and her 20-year-old brother.

Both women are from Kampung Gunung Cheroh near here.

Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm A. Asmadi Abdul Aziz said the two were walking near the emergency department to lodge a police report after receiving treatment, when a fight broke out between both parties.

He said the hospital’s security guards managed to break up the fight.

“However, when the complainant (the younger woman’s brother) went to take his helmet from the motorcycle parking area, one of the men pulled his shirt and started to beat him.

“According to the complainant, one of the men threatened to kill him and his family, and he came to the police station to lodge a report and seek police protection, ” he added.

ACP Asmadi said the initial investigations revealed that the younger woman had been beaten earlier on that day by the group, and a police report on that incident was also lodged.

He said the complainant had come to the hospital to meet his sister, when the wife of one of the accused was also at the same hospital seeking treatment.

“Bystanders recorded the commotion in front of the emergency ward, and the video has gone viral.

We arrested four men aged between 47 and 17, including the older woman’s husband.

“The complainant has also been arrested to assist in investigations, ” he said.

ACP Asmadi added one of the four men arrested has 14 criminal records, one narcotics record and said that the case is being investigated under Section 147 of the Penal Code for rioting.
