Patrick Teoh remanded for three days for allegedly insulting TMJ


JOHOR BARU: Former radio announcer and actor Patrick Teoh has been given a three-day remand following allegations that he had insulted Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.

His lawyer Datuk Seri Rajan Navaratnam said that Teoh was brought for remand proceedings at Johor Baru South police station on Sunday (May 10) morning.

"The police have requested for a four-day remand period which was objected to and the registrar Norhidayah Abd Manaf gave a three-day remand order which will expire on May 12.

"At this stage, we are unsure if he will be remanded further or whether he will be charged," he said when contacted here.

In a statement, Johor police chief Comm Datuk Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay confirmed that Teoh was given a three-day remand.

He said that the case is being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for improper use of network facilities.

It was earlier reported that Teoh has been arrested on Saturday (May 9) at Petaling Jaya in connection with allegations that he had insulted Johor Crown Prince Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim.

According to Rajan, Teoh allegedly reshared a video which Tunku Ismail posted last year that showed Tunku Ismail and other individuals dressed in military garb handling firearms.

Teoh is believed to have shared the video on Thursday (May 7) and used obscenities when he commented on it on his Facebook page.
