Two nabbed for supermarket robbery in Rawang

GOMBAK: Police arrested two men believed to be involved in a supermarket robbery during the movement control order (MCO).

Gombak OCPD Asst Comm Arifai Tarawe said police managed to track down the first suspect, aged 30, near Taman Bersatu in Rawang following a tip-off around 9pm on Saturday (April 18).

"The suspect was seen on a motorcycle acting suspiciously and tried to flee when he noticed the police," he said.

ACP Arifai said further investigations led police to the suspect's alleged accomplice in Batu 16, Rawang.

It is believed the second suspect, aged 35, acted as the getaway driver in the heist.

"He waited for the first suspect to complete the robbery before fleeing together," he said.

Both men are unemployed and have prior criminal records.

Police also managed to retrieve about RM2,000 in cash believed to have been stolen in the robbery and seized the motorcycle that was allegedly used to commit the crime.

"With the arrest of these men, we believe we have solved the case," he said, adding that the video footage of the incident had gone viral on social media.

The case is being investigated for gang-robbery, armed robbery and violating the MCO.
