MCO: Man nabbed with drugs in car at roadblock

SHAH ALAM: A man's attempt to hide drugs in the plastic wrappings of a well-known courier company did not fool police manning the movement control order (MCO) roadblock here.

Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Baharudin Mat Taib said police stopped the 23-year-old at a roadblock in Persiaran Kayangan, Section 7 on Tuesday (April 14) around 3.15pm and found the package in the backseat.

"The package was on the floor and when we opened it, we discovered that it contained what is believed to be three solid blocks of dried marijuana leaves weighing about 470g," he said.

It is learned that the man was on his way home when he was stopped at the roadblock.

Police were later led to the suspect's house in i-City where they found a 25-year-old woman, believed to be the suspect's girlfriend, and three foil packages also believed to contain dried marijuana leaves weighing about 23g.

They also found about RM1,666 cash in Malaysian and Vietnamese denominations.

ACP Baharudin said the total street value of the drugs is estimated to be around RM3,000.

It is understood that the couple ran their own online business and did not have any criminal record.

The man has been remanded for seven days until Apr 21, while the woman has been remanded for four days until Apr 18 to help with investigations.

The case is being investigated for drug trafficking under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 which carries a mandatory death sentence upon conviction.
