KUALA LUMPUR: As Lembah Pantai continues to be the top among the country’s Covid-19 red zones with the highest number of cases, Kampar in Perak has lost its green status and is now a yellow zone.
The Perak Health Department said that two cases of Covid-19 were detected in Kampar, and thus it was no longer a green zone.
A spokesperson of the department said it conducted a coordination process on Friday involving a few districts.
“The coordination process is to ensure that the cases are registered based on the patient’s house address, instead of the location of the diagnosis.
“This will then be reflective of the cases in the related district, ” the spokesperson said, adding that initially the cases were grouped under Kinta.
Prior to this, Kampar was among the four green zones in Peninsular Malaysia; the other three districts were Yan in Kedah, Machang in Kelantan, and Hulu Terengganu.
Over in Sabah and Sarawak, 25 districts are green zones (eight in Sabah and 17 in Sarawak).
Meanwhile, Lembah Pantai, which has had the highest number of cases among red zone districts in more than a week, has now recorded nearly 500 cases.
Based on the Health Ministry’s Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre infographic, which is shared through the ministry’s official social media accounts, 496 Covid-19 positive cases were recorded in the Lembah Pantai district as at noon on Sunday, from 459 cases the day before.
Twenty-six districts remain as Covid-19 red zone areas in the country.
After Lembah Pantai, Hulu Langat and Petaling recorded the second and third highest number of cases with 388 and 378 cases, respectively.
The red zone category is for areas with at least 41 Covid-19 positive cases; orange zone (20-40 cases); yellow zone (1-19 cases); and green zone (no case).
Selangor recorded the highest number of cases among all the states, totalling 1,236.
Based on statistics by the World Health Organisation, Malaysia is at 34th place in the list of countries affected by the coronavirus pandemic.
