KUALA LUMPUR: Police have taken a statement from Kuantan MP Fuziah Salleh (pic) over a video she posted on her Facebook account.
Federal CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said they opened investigations into the case on Friday (April 10).
"We were alerted after a Facebook user with the username Fuziah Salleh uploaded a video claiming there was a flood of Malaysians at the Bangunan Sultan Iskandar Customs, Immigration and Quarantine Complex in Johor Baru.
"The Johor Immigration Department director denied the incident and lodged a report on the matter," he said in a statement on Sunday (April 12).
He said police classified the case as defamation under Section 500 as well as Section 505(b) of the Penal Code for circulating any statement, rumour or report with intent to cause fear or alarm to the public.
"We are also investigating the case for misuse of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
"We took her statement on Friday and seized the gadget she used to upload the post," he said, adding that investigations were ongoing.
Meanwhile, Comm Huzir said police arrested a 48-year-old woman for allegedly making seditious and racially-charged posts on her Facebook account.
"We opened investigations on Thursday (April 9) based on two posts on a Facebook account.
"We arrested the woman on Saturday (April 11) and seized the gadget she used," he said, adding that the case was classified as an act with seditious tendencies under Section 4(1)(a) of the Sedition Act and Section 504 of the Penal Code for provoking any person with intention to cause the person to break public peace.
He said they would also be investigating the case for misuse of network facilities under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act.
Comm Huzir said investigations were ongoing and the investigation papers would be referred to the Attorney General's Chambers for further action.
He urged the public to refrain from publishing or distributing any statement, rumour or article which has seditious tendencies which could break public peace and incite animosity.
"We will take stern action and drag them to face justice," he said.
