Health DG: Proper crowd control needed for Ramadan bazaars

PUTRAJAYA: Proper crowd control measures are needed if Ramadan food bazaars are to be implemented, says the Health Ministry.

Health director-general Datuk Seri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said such markets must put in proper contact distancing procedures and hygiene practices.

“It is important to practise safe distancing and take all precautions as well as good hygiene. Control is important at crowded places.

“We need to look into the implementation of these procedures. As long as they can comply with the correct SOPs (standard operating procedures), then it is fine, ” said Dr Noor Hisham at a press conference here.

Earlier, Federal Territories Minister Tan Sri Annuar Musa said his ministry and the Kuala Lumpur City Hall are contemplating whether to approve any large-scale Ramadan bazaars after the Covid-19 movement control order period ends on April 14.

He said the previous bazaars that people are familiar with may not be an option, adding that the bazaar would be in another form to fulfil the needs of city-dwellers during their fasting month.

The first day of Ramadan this year is expected to fall on April 23.
