MIRI: Sarawak police have arrested 28 people who breached the movement control order (MCO).
Sarawak deputy police commissioner Datuk Dev Kumar said the police had to detain them as they could not give good reasons why they were not staying at home.
"We have from last night until this morning detained 24 men and four women for defying orders to stay at home.
"They could not give our police teams valid reasons why they should be out in public during the MCO period.
"Two of those detained in Miri are in the lock-up for ramming a police roadblock (in Batu Niah district 120km south of Miri city).
"The rest are granted police bail pending court charges," DCP Dev said in his latest updates to the press on Thursday (March 26).
The 28 arrested were from Miri (9), Dalat (7), Sarikei (4), Kota Samarahan (2), Lawas (2), Bintulu (2), Kuching and Padawan one each.
Those found guilty of violating the movement control order can be jailed up to two years and fined up to RM10,000 upon conviction.
