‘Powerless to choose PM’


Decision venue: Dr Mahathir has announced that the next Prime Minister will be chosen in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday.

PETALING JAYA: The Federal Constitution does not provide the right for the Dewan Rakyat to choose a prime minister, says Dewan Negara president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran.

“Nobody, no institution in the country except the institution of His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong by virtue of Article 43(2)(a) of the Federal Constitution, can appoint the Prime Minister.
