THERE was a controversy of sorts when singer Noraniza Idris uploaded a photograph of the late Sudirman Arshad, describing him as the country’s No.1 singer and entertainer.

Harian Metro reported that the Instagram posting somehow did not sit well with fans of Datuk Seri Siti Nurhaliza.

On her part, Noraniza maintained that she had not intended to provoke anybody.

She said she had merely shown the image to share her memories of Sudirman.

“I don’t blame any artistes when their fans are too obsessed, ” she said.

These fans, she said, would make negative remarks about other singers.

“For me, it only reflects their mindset, ” she said.

She added that she had no problems with Siti Nurhaliza.

Siti Nurhaliza urged her fans not to be hasty with their comments.

“I hope they remain calm. I know some of them are not fans. They only want to stir up the situation.

“I don’t want to say much as it won’t

be proper to do so, ” said Siti Nurhaliza, 41.

> A teachers’ group has decried the incident of a religious teacher (ustazah) who was made to crawl on the floor of a classroom after she punished a student, Berita Harian reported.

A video of the incident in Johor was circulated on social media.

Ikatan Guru-Guru Muslim Malaysia president Mohd Azizee Hasan said this had embarrassed the teacher.

“The move by the parent to force the ustazah to crawl in front of the students was an act that challenged the professionalism of a teacher.

“If parents have issues with a teacher, they should bring it up with the school management and not take unreasonable action to embarrass the teacher, ” said Mohd Azizee.

He called for action to be taken to restore the teacher’s reputation.

“We believe that the best way to resolve matters is through harmonious discussions between parents and teachers.

This is to ensure the welfare of the teachers and to protect students, ” he said.

The Johor Islamic Religious Department has launched an investigation into the incident.
