PUTRAJAYA: A 39-year-old tourist from Wuhan, China, is the 19th confirmed case of Covid-19 (novel coronavirus) in Malaysia.
The woman is the daughter of the country’s 16th Covid-19 case, and a friend of the 14th case.
They were among a group of five travellers who arrived in Malaysia from China on Jan 25.
“As soon as the two tested positive for the coronavirus on Feb 5 and 7, she was put under home surveillance and monitored by the district health office.
“On Feb 12, she began developing symptoms such as cough and fever.
“She was then admitted to Hospital Kuala Lumpur.
“Tests conducted found that she tested positive for Covid-19 on the same day, ” said Health
director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah in a press statement.
Dr Noor Hisham said the woman has been placed in an isolation ward and is currently in a stable condition.
The other two positive cases – the woman’s 37-year-old friend and 67-year-old mother, are also isolated at the same hospital.
The remaining two in the group are still being monitored daily by health officials under home surveillance.
Out of the 19 confirmed cases, 13 are China nationals while six are Malaysians.
Three patients, all from China, have recovered from the coronavirus and have been discharged.
The remaining 16 are still being treated and are in a stable condition.
Dr Noor Hisham added that the ministry has also traced and identified 223 people who had been in close contact with those who tested positive, and all were under close medical supervision.
