KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): China has imposed a quarantine on Wuhan in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak there, the Health Ministry said on its official Twitter feed Thursday (Jan 23).
The tweet said the 11 million people living in Wuhan are now barred from leaving the city.
"All public transportation like buses, subways, ferries have stopped operating from 10 am on Jan 23. The airport there is also closed and all flights out of Wuhan have been cancelled," the post stated.
The media reported Wednesday (Jan 22) that 11 people have died because of the outbreak while about 400 more people have been infected.
On Monday (Jan 20), China's National Health Commission had confirmed human-to-human transmission of the novel coronavirus.
Prior to that, it was suspected that it could only spread to humans upon exposure to sick animals. - Bernama
