IPOH: Perak Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) Youth chief Mohd Hafez Mubin Mohd Salleh slams eight DAP Youth leaders who criticised Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman over the power transition issue between Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad and Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Mohd Hafez Mubin said Syed Saddiq was not wrong and the DAP leaders' baseless statement had only made matters worse as Bersatu party elections would be held soon.
"It is stupid and childish for the DAP Youth leaders to also link his remark with the arrests of some Bersatu Youth members recently.
"Are there not any DAP leaders that are facing cases that are still under investigation?" he asked in a statement Wednesday (Jan 22).
Mohd Hafez Mubin was commenting on a joint statement issued by DAP Youth leaders that called on Syed Saddiq to get his house in order following the arrest of several party members in a recent drug bust in Puchong.
They also urged for a clear transition date between Dr Mahathir and Anwar to clear the confusion surrounding the matter.
The DAP Youth leaders included its deputy chief Chiong Yoke Kong, secretary Eric Teh, international secretary Satees Muniandy, political education director Tan Tiong Yih, organising secretary Lee Wei Siang, treasurer Khoo Khim Han and committee members Woo Kah Leong and Yu Ong Ching.
Syed Saddiq had earlier accused several Pakatan Harapan leaders of pressuring Dr Mahathir to step down.
Mohd Hafez Mubin said even Anwar himself had called on Pakatan members not to insist on a date to change hands.
"This is not the first time such statement was issued.
"I believe DAP themselves have stated their commitment to respect the consensus that was agreed on January 2018. What more, even DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang has called upon Pakatan leaders and members to stop their obsession over the matter," he said.
"My advice is for them to heed the advice of their party's leader before aiming to become political champions of issues that only court hatred from the people," he said.
He also said that all party youth members need to stop politicking and focus on serving the people as mandated.
"Enough of playing with the sentiment that you support the majority voice in the country who want a clear date for the transition.
"I am confident and believe that what the people want is a stable country that is better than the previous government," he said.
