Selangor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari.

SHAH ALAM (Bernama): Selangor Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia chairman Datuk Abdul Rashid Ansari has confirmed the arrest of a state assemblyman from the party by the police early Monday (Jan 13).

He said the assemblyman was arrested at about 1.30am Monday, but declined to comment on the reason for the arrest.

News of the arrest went viral on social media.

"The party top leadership have been informed of the arrest and they are leaving the matter to the authorities to investigate," he said when contacted by Bernama.

Attempts to contact the assemblyman concerned were futile, Bernama reported.

It was reported earlier that a Selangor state assemblyman and four political special officers were among 17 people arrested during a raid in Puchong.

According to Malaysiakini, Dengkil assemblyman Adhif Syan Abdullah denied that he was arrested for drug use, claiming he was at home at the time.
