Najib: Umno must be disciplined, or there will be chaos

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno members must be disciplined and follow all decisions made by the leadership or else the party will forever be in a state of chaos, says Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

The former Umno president and Barisan Nasional advisory board chairman said that Umno believes in the leadership system where discipline must be observed.

"A party without discipline will be in chaos just like the 'other' party that we can see that is always in chaos," he said before a dialogue session with university graduates in conjunction with the party's annual General Assembly at Putra World Trade Centre (PWTC) on Friday (Dec 6).

His remarks are believed to be in reference to the commotion and fights erupted at the PKR Youth wing meeting in Malacca.

The former premier was asked to comment on party president Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi's speech that the party can only have one "captain to steer the ship in the sea".

Asked to comment on a viral video of primary school pupils singing a Mandarin version of the national anthem Negaraku, the former prime minister said it should have not happened.

"Our Negaraku must be sung in our national language which is Bahasa Malaysia," he said.

The one-minute, 23-second clip has been viewed over 6,500 times since it was uploaded on social media on Friday.

The Education Ministry, said it had taken note of the incident and was conducting an investigation into the matter.

"The ministry will not compromise with any party that is attempting to go against the Federal Constitution regardless of whether the act was intentional or otherwise," it said in a statement.
