KUALA LUMPUR: A freak accident along Jalan Loke Yew resulted in one dead, while several others were severely injured, after a lorry crashed into a taxi and two other vehicles.
At around 2.31pm on Wednesday (Nov 13), the driver of the 10-tonne lorry lost control of his vehicle after a tyre burst.
The lorry swerved into the opposite lane, crashing into two cars and a motorcycle.
City Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department chief Asst Comm Zulkefly said the resulting crash led to one fatality and three injured.
Two of the injured are currently being treated at the Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre due to injuries to the head, chest and leg areas. The third suffered fractures on his leg.
The deceased, a passenger of the taxi that had been hit, has been identified as 72-year-old Shanta Kumari Nadarajah.
"The case has been classified under Section 41 (1) of the Road Transport Act1987 for causing death by reckless driving," he said.
