KUALA LUMPUR (Bernama): Three outstanding Malaysians have been conferred the Japanese Foreign Minister’s Commendation award this year for their continuous works in promoting ties between Malaysia and Japan.
They are Japanese Language Society of Malaysia's vice-president Edward Lee Chee Peng, Universiti Sains Islam Malaysia (USIM) senior lecturer Dr Zoraida Mustafa, and Negeri Sembilan Judo Association deputy president Lee Wing Fook.
The award was presented by Japan ambassador to Malaysia Dr Makio Miyagawa in a ceremony held at his residence here Monday (Sept 23).
Edward has been teaching Japanese since 1982 and his works include the development of a Japanese language syllabus for Malaysian students which greatly contributed to the promotion of Japanese language education in Malaysia.
Zoraida, meanwhile, was honoured for her contribution in helping to spread Japanese language education in Malaysia. She was involved in setting up the Japanese Language Teachers Association and the Japanese Language and Culture Centre in USIM, and the publication of Japanese textbooks and books on Japanese culture and history.
Meanwhile, Wing Fook, who took up judo at the age of 13, was recognised for his role in the promotion of the Japanese martial art in Asia for more than 30 years. He is also a certified judo instructor and judo referee. - Bernama
