GEORGE TOWN: The police will record statements from Penang Deputy Chief Minister II Dr P. Ramasamy (pic) and Bagan Dalam assemblyman Satees Muniandy on Wednesday (Sept 11) following reports lodged against them by controversial preacher Dr Zakir Naik over alleged defamatory statements.
According to Ramasamy, a team of police officers lead by DSP Ananthan Rajoo from the Criminal Investigation Department of Bukit Aman will be in Penang to record their statements.
"My statement will be recorded at 9am, whereas Satees' statement will be recorded at 11am in Komtar," he said in a statement on Monday (Sept 9).
Ramasamy said the statements will be recorded in response to the two police reports lodged against him and Satees by Zakir.
Zakir had also lodged reports against Human Resourced Minister M. Kulasegaran, Klang MP Charles Santiago and former ambassador Dennis J. Ignatius over the same issue.
On Sunday (Sept 8), Bukit Aman will call up those who Zakir alleged to have defamed him by this week, says Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed.
The Bukit Aman CID director said police will record the statements of the men to assist in their investigations.
On the investigation into Zakir's alleged racially-charged statements during a talk in Kelantan, Comm Huzir said the investigation papers have been forwarded to the Attorney General's Chambers for further action.
