Latheefa: MACC data shows almost half of graft detainees from civil service

              

SHAH ALAM: Malaysian Anti Corruption Commission (MACC) data shows that 46.3% out of the 4, 860 individuals detained for graft from 2014 up to June this year were civil servants, says Latheefa Koya.

"Most of the graft cases involved staff from the procurement sector. It is more worrisome that 53.4% out of the 4, 860 individuals detained were aged 40 and below, " said the MACC chief commissioner.

Latheefa also disclosed that a study carried out by the MACC revealed that 22.1% of the respondents from the civil service said they were willing to receive bribes if they had power or position.

She said this in her speech at the Selangor state government's corruption free pledge on Monday (Aug 19).

Latheefa added that the pledge was a personal promise and commitment made to not be involved in graft and abuse of power.

She praised the state government's leadership for signing the pledge as it indicated their sincerity, work commitment and wish to serve in an environment which was conducive and graft free.
