PETALING JAYA: Controversial preacher Dr Zakir Naik will be called up by Bukit Aman again on Monday (Aug 19) to resume the recording of his statement following his recent racially charged comments.
Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Huzir Mohamed said that the police had initially spent three hours and thirty minutes recording Zakir's statement on Friday (Aug 16).
"We began recording his statement at 3.30pm and it ended at 7pm as he had requested that the session be postponed as he wanted to break his fast. He was accompanied by his lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader.
"We will resume recording his statement at 3.30pm on Monday," he said in a statement on Saturday (Aug 17).
Meanwhile, Comm Huzir said that the police will also be taking the statement of tycoon Tan Sri Koon Yew Yin over his statement that allegedly insulted Armed Forces personnel.
Koon had alleged that Armed Forces personnel did nothing but eat and sleep. He has since apologised for his remarks.
"His statement will be recorded in Ipoh, Perak, on Monday," he said.
Comm Huzir added that the police will also be calling up Chinese educationist group Dong Zong chairman Tan Tai Kim soon over the group's statement that the introduction of Jawi in vernacular schools was a form of Islamisation.
"We received a report on the matter on Aug 13. We are investigating and Tan will be called up soon," he said.
Zakir and Dong Zong is being investigated under Section 504 of the Penal Code for intent to provoke a breach of the peace, which carries two years imprisonment, a fine or both upon conviction.
Koon is being investigated under Section 505(c) of the Penal Code for Section 505(c) of the Penal Code for the offence of causing public mischief, which carries two years imprisonment or a fine or both upon conviction.
He is also being investigated under Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities, which is punishable with a fine of up to RM50,000, one year's jail, or both.
