SAR team did their best to find Nora Anne, says Wan Azizah

SEREMBAN: Deputy Prime Minister Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail has expressed her gratitude to all parties involved in the search for Nora Anne Quoirin but described the death of the 15-year-old teenager as unfortunate.

Dr Wan Azizah said based on a detailed briefing by state police chief DCP Datuk Mohamad Mat Yusop, the authorities had done their best to find Nora Anne.

"Her death was tragic and I wish to extend my condolences to the family, " she told reporters after a briefing at the Pantai police station on Friday (Aug 16).

Dr Wan Azizah also met the Quoirins personally to convey her condolences.

She said the Irish Embassy would assist Nora Anne's family with the necessary documentation if they wished to take her remains home.

On Thursday (Aug 15), the authorities ruled out foul play in the mysterious death of Nora Anne whose remains were found in a stream 10 days after she disappeared from a resort in Pantai Hills near here.

Medical experts who conducted a nine-hour autopsy on her remains ruled that her death was caused due to upper gastrointestinal bleeding.

DCP Mohamad said forensic experts also found that the teenager was not sexually assaulted or subjected to any form of violence.

"The pathologists found that she was not raped as her hymen was intact.

"As of now, we can conclude that there was no forced abduction or if she was subjected to any form of violence, " he added.

He said the intestinal bleeding could have been caused due to prolonged starvation.

DCP Mohamad said the team also concluded that Nora Anne could have been dead between two and three days before her body was found.

The four-member team led by Kuala Lumpur Hospital forensic pathologist Dr Siew Sheue Feng also included Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital forensic pathologist Dr Hanif Mohammad and Dr Aidora Saedon from the Chemistry Department and Sufian Arshad Ahmad from the Forensic Department.

A search-and-rescue team found Nora Anne's remains in a ravine at 1.57pm on Tuesday (Aug 13).

Her remains had to be winched up by helicopter and taken to the hospital for the post-mortem.

Nora Anne's body was found in a stream some 2.5km from the resort she was staying in.

The teenager disappeared from the resort she was living with her family on Aug 4.

She had checked into the property with her parents Sebastian Marie Philipe and Meabh Jaseprine Quoirin and siblings Innes Julia and Maurice Arthure a day earlier.

However, she was not found in her room she shared with her siblings the following morning.

A window in the room that could only be opened from the inside was open.
