Undemocratic: Perak BN riled by motion compelling reps to declare assets to Speaker

IPOH: The Pakatan Harapan state government has dishonoured the basic principle of democracy by passing a motion compelling all assemblymen and their immediate family members to declare their assets to the State Speaker, says Datuk Saarani Mohamad (pic).

The Perak Barisan Nasional chairman said the state assembly had been used like a legislative tool to take control over executive power when passing the motion last week.

"They have disrespected the doctrine of separation of power," he said in a statement on Tuesday (July 30).

"It's unfortunate that the Mentri Besar cannot see the cunning games played by DAP that controls the state assembly.

"It is as if they want to create another administration power in the state government," he added.

Saarani was responding to state Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu's remark yesterday that the Opposition assemblymen was disrespecting the State Speaker by not declaring their assets to him.

It was reported that the motion had been passed and that all assemblymen would have to make a statutory declaration of their assets and submit it to Speaker Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham.

A copy of those declarations would then be forwarded to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission.
