IPOH: Perak Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu should instruct two of his executive councillors who are under police investigations to go on leave, says a non-governmental organisation.
Pertubuhan Rangkaian Organisasi98@ Reformasi Malaysia Perak branch secretary Sazali Shamsudin said Paul Yong Choo Kiong from DAP and Abdul Yunus Jamhari from PKR should, for the time being, relinquish their official duties.
Yong is being investigated for allegedly raping his maid while Yunus is accused of trying to get kickbacks from two companies that were trying to apply for land in Kerian.
Sazali said it was time for Pakatan Harapan to do what was right in order for the people to be confident of the coalition ahead of the next general election.
“It is only right that political leaders linked to accusations of wrongdoings take leave until the investigations are carried out completely.
“This move is important to ensure the authorities are given the space to carry out their duties freely and fairly.
“This is to show the people that they (leaders) are not trying to hide behind positions in the government, other high positions, and definitely not behind the Mentri Besar,” Sazali told reporters before presenting a memorandum addressed to Ahmad Faizal at the state secretariat building here yesterday.
The Mentri Besar’s office administration officer, Hanita Alang Ismail, accepted the memorandum.
Sazali said of late there had been many integrity issues involving political leaders.
“Integrity issues such as corruption, criminal breach of trust, abuse of power, cheating and acts that mislead the public are rampant.
“Such behaviour will only cause the people to suffer,” he added.
