PETALING JAYA: A police report has been lodged against a psychiatrist from a private hospital here, claiming that he sexually harassed a patient.

Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Zani Che Din confirmed that a police report was received against the doctor.

"We are investigating the case under Section 509 of the Penal Code for insulting the modesty of a person," he said when contacted on Wednesday (July 17).

It was reported that the Kota Damansara Thomson Hospital terminated the services of the consultant psychiatrist after the allegations arose.

The hospital said in a statement that the case had been referred to the police and the Malaysian Medical Council (MMC) for further action.

According to the hospital, it initially suspended the psychiatrist on July 6 pending an internal inquiry following a complaint from the patient.

After the inquiry was conducted, the management decided to terminate the psychiatrist's services effective Monday (July 15).
