PUTRAJAYA: The ongoing discussion between the Federal government and Terengganu state on the 10 FGV Holdings Bhd plantations covering around 15,000ha of land will continue, says Datuk Fahmi Fadzil.
The Communications Minister said a meeting was held on Friday (Dec 5) between Treasury Secretary-General Datuk Johan Mahmood Merican and the Terengganu state secretary in regards to outstanding matters involving the Felda-managed land in the state.
He said both sides, as well as Felda, have agreed that further discussions should be conducted.
“At the next Cabinet meeting, there may be several matters that the Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim will raise.
“But as of yesterday afternoon, the meeting took place, and discussions will continue,” he said when met with reporters after launching the Safe Internet Campaign Mega Carnival at IOI Grand Exhibition Hall and Convention Centre here, on Saturday (Dec 6).
Last month, the Terengganu state government issued notices prohibiting encroachment on the land, citing unresolved obligations related to profit-sharing for state-owned land that has been cultivated for four decades.
The notices were served simultaneously to plantation managements in Setiu, Besut, Kemaman, Marang, Dungun, and Hulu Terengganu.
Earlier today, Terengganu Agriculture, Agro-Based Industry, Food Security and Commodities Executive Committee Datuk Dr Azman Ibrahim stressed the need for all parties to find the best solution to the issue.
He said removing the superior attitude is important to assess each issue fairly and equitably, as both sides are currently discussing the matters.
Yesterday, Fahmi said that the Federal Government has already settled all financial obligations tied to the matter and is now awaiting corresponding action from the Terengganu authorities.
He reiterated that the Federal Government remains committed to resolving the matter through structured and continuous engagement with all parties involved.
