Khairy turns down Syed Saddiq's Bersatu invite, says he is happy where he is

KUALA LUMPUR: Umno stalwart Khairy Jamaluddin has turned down an invite by Parti Pribumi Bersatu Malaysia (Bersatu) youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman to cross over, saying he is happy to be with Barisan Nasional.

“I’m happy where I am. Thank you,” he said briefly to reporters when met at the Parliament lobby Monday (July 8).

Pressed by reporters regarding Syed Saddiq’s invitation, Khairy brushed it off before leaving the Parliament lobby shortly after.

On Sunday (July 7), Syed Saddiq had urged Khairy to abandon the allegedly right wing-leaning Umno for a centrist-based party like Bersatu.

“I would like to invite Khairy to join Bersatu. Join the likes of Tun, TSMY, DSMM & Tokpa. Together we can move Malaysia forward,” Syed Saddiq said.

On July 5, Bersatu chairman Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad had called for all Malays, especially Umno members, to come together under the umbrella of Bersatu for the sake of unity.

Pakatan Harapan is set to have a presidential council meeting at 4pm on Monday (July 8) to deliberate over Dr Mahathir’s remarks.
