IPOH: Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi says it is his right to resume duties as Umno president as he was rightfully elected to the post.
"There have been questions about me resuming my duties and that my decision needed to be discussed by the party supreme council," he said during his opening speech at the Tambun Umno annual general meeting here on Sunday (July 7).
"When I went on leave, why wasn't there a need for this to be discussed by the council?" he asked.
Former Umno Youth chief Khairy Jamaluddin was reported to have said that Ahmad Zahid's return needed to be discussed by the party's supreme council first.
Khairy had said that it was only right as Ahmad Zahid had gone on a long leave and it would be unfair not to get the opinion of supreme council members who had been performing duties in his stead.
Ahmad Zahid also slammed those who had called for him to step down as president saying they seemed "desperate" to see him go.
