KOTA KINABALU: Two car wash workers have been charged in connection with the murder of a Grab driver here last month.

Local Amru Al Asy Japri, 24, and Filipino Arsit Indanan, 20, were accused of the murder of Mohammad Hanafiee Jaffar, 27, in a Proton Saga FLX car by the roadside in Jalan Marabahai in Tuaran between 4am and 5am on May 25.

No plea was recorded from the duo after the charges under Section 302 of the Penal Code were read to them before magistrate Jessica Ombou Kakayun at the mobile Magistrate’s Court in Tuaran about 40km from here on Monday.

The court set July 11 for the remention of the case and ordered both men to be further remanded.

Kakayun asked Amru’s lawyer Dominic Chew to provide proof that his client previously underwent psychiatric treatment at the Bukit Padang Hospital here.

Chew had requested the court to refer Amru to the mental hospital in Bukit Padang for a check-up to ascertain whether he would be able to make a plea.

The magistrate said they would consider the request if they could provide proof by way of Amru’s hospital appointment card.

Arsit was not represented when the charges were read.
