Dr Wee sees red with poor English in offer letter

KUALA LUMPUR: The bad English in the offer letter by an unnamed party, expressing interest to purchase the Malaysian consulate building in Hong Kong, has left MCA president Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong bewildered.

Dr Wee pointed out that the offer letter, produced by Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, was riddled with grammatical errors.

"Lim said the letter came from a law firm in Hong Kong. How can the quality of English among lawyers in Hong Kong be so poor?" he questioned.

"In fact, I laughed when I read the contents of the letter, because it was filled with grammatical mistakes," he said in a Facebook post on Wednesday (April 3).

Without mincing his words, Dr Wee said the standard of English in the offer letter seemed as though it came from an unaccredited broker.

"How can a company that is able to afford RM1.68bil appoint an agent/lawyer with such low standards? he further questioned.

"If Lim wants to produce a letter, furnish a letter that has quality and professional. Otherwise, we will be laughed by the world," he said.

"The government should not seek the services of an unaccredited broker. Let's be professional and not be 'provisional'," he added.
