KUALA LUMPUR: Cameron Highlands lawmaker Ramli Mohd Nor took his oath of office in the Dewan Rakyat on Tuesday (March 12).
Ramli, who is a Barisan Nasional candidate, became the first-ever orang asli to be elected as a Member of Parliament after winning the by-election in Jan 26.
Ramli, who was clad in a black baju melayu, took his oath before Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Mohamad Ariff Md Yusof.
Mohamad Ariff congratulated Ramli for making history in the august hall as being the first orang asli candidate to be elected into Parliament.
He hoped that Ramli can contribute to Parliament and the country as well as serve his constituents.
"I am confident that you will be able to carry out your duties accordingly," said Mohamad Ariff.
Ramli won by a 3,238- vote majority against Pakatan Harapan candidate M. Manogaran.
