Body of 11-year-old girl claimed, family accepts death

KUANTAN: The body of suspected murder victim Siti Masitah Ibrahim has been claimed by her mother at Hospital Tengku Ampuan Afzan here.

Solihah Abdullah, 35, said she was relieved that it was finally confirmed that the body was that of her daughter.

"We have waited so long to claim the body to bury the remains. It is very sad for us but we are resigned to what happened," she said here on Monday (Feb 18).

Siti Masitah, 11, who went missing on Jan 30, was found dead in some undergrowth in Kampung Tanjung Medang Hilir, some 3km from her house on Feb 9.

Police had earlier denied that any of her organs were illegally harvested.

Following a DNA test, it was confirmed that the body was the remains of Siti Masitah.

A 23-year-old Cambodian man, who was detained on Jan 31 to assist in investigations, had admitted his involvement in the girl's disappearance.

The suspect was remanded until Feb 24 to facilitate the murder investigation.
