PETALING JAYA: Rain or shine, Christine Lai (pic) will be out almost every Sunday trying to find homes for rescued street dogs and puppies.
The 58-year-old mother of a grown-up son has diligently been doing this for more than a decade now.
"It is like a calling for me to find these puppies a home," said Lai who has been an animal rescuer and feeder as long as she could remember.
According to the canine welfare project Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) adoption coordinator, she started off as a child helping her mother feed stray cats and dogs around their home in SS2, Petaling Jaya.
"And I've not stopped since," said Lai who will be at Citta Mall, Ara Damansara on Sunday (Jan 27) at the MDDB monthly adoption drive at the mall.
Lai, who will be there from 11am to 5pm today, said she is desperately looking for a home for a puppy rescued off the streets about a month ago.
"We need to get her rehomed before she grows up or otherwise she will end up languishing her life away with the 165 dogs that are with us," said Lai.
She added it was a big challenge for MDDB every month to raise sufficient funds to pay for the monthly upkeep of their rescued dogs.
"It is literally a nightmare for us every end of the month as it is time for us to pay rentals, utilities, veterinary bills, food bills and volunteer allowances," said Lai.
Lai added she would also be raising funds towards MDDB's monthly expenses at Citta Mall today.
"Please help us help the voiceless," said Lai, adding that MDDB also urgently needed kibbles which could also be dropped off at the adoption drive.
