Pahang Sultan: Paduka Ayahanda’s legacy is without comparison

PEKAN: Sultan Abdullah Ibni Sultan Ahmad Shah was overcome by emotion when he paid a heartfelt tribute to his parents.

In his first speech as the Ruler of Pahang, Sultan Abdullah said he felt humbled having inherited the throne from his father Paduka Ayahanda Sultan Ahmad Shah.

“He’s a fair Ruler, noble, kind, incomparable, well-loved and respected by the people.

“The legacy of Paduka Ayahanda’s reign is without comparison. It will be chiselled into history,” he said.

Sultan Abdullah also appealed to the people to extend prayers for Sultan Ahmad Shah’s protection as well as to his late mother Almarhumah Tengku Ampuan Afzan.

“She was alw ays determined to educate me with love. There were no sighs and not a hint of anger.

“My mother was a queen and a jewel of my heart that once lost is difficult to replace,” he said.

Sultan Abdullah’s consort Tengku Puan Pahang Tunku Azizah Aminah Maimunah Iskandariah Sultan Iskandar was also visibly moved and could be seen wiping away her tears.

After composing himself, Sultan Abdullah continued his speech by thanking Sultanah Kalsom, his siblings and family members who had taken care of Sultan Ahmad Shah.

He also called on the state leadership at all levels to serve the people with trust, responsibility and piety, saying that only a God-fearing leader would realise that every action and decision made would be taken into account in the afterlife.

To the people, Sultan Abdullah said he was still the shade where they could take shelter when facing calamity and share in love when in grief.

“The legacy of Paduka Ayahanda’s reign is based upon the sacred words: The Ruler and the people are never apart. This shall continue to be the main motto of my reign,” he said.

Tengku Muda Pahang Tengku Abdul Rahman said his brother had vast experience and guidance from their father Sultan Ahmad Shah.

“His Highness will be able to rule this state with excellence and wisdom,” he said.

Tengku Abdul Rahman represented the titled royalty, royal family members and the nobility of Pahang in pledging their loyalty to the Sultan.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail said the people were fortunate to be living peacefully in Pahang under the rule of His Highness.

“This is possible because of His Highness’ role as a unifying factor of the people regardless of their racial, religious and economic backgrounds,” he said in representing the state executive council, assemblymen, government officers, statutory bodies and the people of Pahang in pledging their loyalty.
