Fireman Adib making progress

KUALA LUMPUR: Fireman Muhammad Adib Mohd Kassim, who suffered severe chest injuries during riots at the Seafield Sri Maha Mariamman Temple, is showing further progress, said the Health Minister.

Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad said the 24-year-old suffered from multiple rib fractures and pneumothorax (an abnormal collection of air in the pleural space between the lung and the chest), adding that a team of specialists at the National Heart Institute (IJN) were working round the clock to care for him.

“Adib is getting better. His prognosis is good but we still need to pray a lot for him,” he told reporters at IJN yesterday.

But Dr Dzulkefly said that Muhammad Adib is still hooked up to machines that monitor his heart, lungs and kidney functions.

“I’m made to understand that he will be weaned off from sedation as he recovers.

“We hope he will recover and return to his job,” he added.

Dr Dzulkefly also urged people to avoid spreading rumours on social media and to only get their information from those in authority.

Muhammad Adib was critically injured in the line of duty after he and his fellow firemen responded to an emergency at the temple in USJ 25 on Monday night.

He was admitted to the intensive care unit of a private hospital before being sent to the IJN.
