Job well done: Comm Mazlan visiting the injured policeman at UMMC while former IGP Tan Sri Musa Hassan looks on. The officer’s identity is being withheld for his safety.

PETALING JAYA: It’s a pat on the back for the men in blue following a dramatic shootout in the car park of a busy shopping mall, which saw four robbers dead and no civilians injured.

A policeman was shot in the knee when he and his counterparts battled with the gang of robbers which had just targeted a goldsmith at the mall in Jalan Kuchai Lama, Kuala Lumpur at about 4.30pm on Tuesday. One robber was arrested.

Since then, comments left on The Star Online’s Facebook page showed that Malaysians were grateful to the heroes from the police force, especially the Selangor Serious Crimes Unit (D9) officer who was injured.

“Thanks, PDRM for risking life to protect the country. Respect. Let’s make the new Malaysia safe and peaceful with kindness,” said Facebook user Be Theng Koo.

Fellow Facebook user Andy Tan commended the good job by the police in averting a crisis.

“Good job by PDRM for their quick action. Glad to hear no shoppers/members of the public being injured during the shootout. Wishing the injured policeman a speedy recovery,” he said.

Arulmany Selliah said, “Well done PDRM. Thank you. May the officer get well soon.”

Another user Alan Loon said, “PDRM the best ...you guys are the heroes and Malaysians are proud of you guys...SALUTE.”

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor, who visited the injured policeman at the Universiti Malaya Medical Centre yesterday, said the officer was in a stable condition.

“The operation to remove the bullet from his knee went well.

“Well done to him and other police personnel involved in the incident on Tuesday,” he said.

“Considering it occurred at a shopping mall, the policemen did a magnificent job in ensuring members of the public were not hurt,” he said.

The police seized two firearms, an axe, a machete and two cars after the shootout but have yet to identify the robbers.
