PETALING JAYA: Wanita MCA has lodged a police report against a shopper who was heard in a video bullying a beer promoter at a hypermarket in Ampang.
In a statement on Tuesday (Nov 20), Wanita MCA condemned the man's action as being racist and violent for showing an obscene hand gesture.
Wanita MCA added that it was surprising that such an incident could still happen in Malaysia Baru (New Malaysia).
"Wanita MCA does not tolerate any act of bullying against women, and urges the authorities to take action against the culprit," it said.
It said investigations should be carried out under Section 298A of the Penal Code (for causing disharmony, disunity, or feelings of enmity) and Section 4(1)(b) of the Sedition Act 1948 (for uttering seditious words).
Wanita MCA said this is necessary for women's safety, and that action against the man would serve as a lesson to anyone who is an extremist and chauvinist.
Wanita MCA also applauds the promoter for how she handled the situation with patience and calmness.
It advised the rakyat to practise moderation to ensure harmony, peace and unity in the country.
In the 45-second video clip, the shopper was heard berating the beer promoter for giving out beer samples at the hypermarket.
The girl remained calm even though the shopper scolded her and demanded to know if she was promoting the beer to “anyone”, including Muslims.
As the promoter was about to defend herself in English, he criticised her and insisted that she speak in Bahasa Melayu because this is “Bumi Melayu”.
The man then made an obscene hand gesture and spewed vulgarities at her before walking away.
The promoter could be heard in the video saying, “You are hilarious.”
