PETALING JAYA: Teo Nie Ching has called on the public not to share pictures of the child of a hypermarket bully.
The Deputy Education Minister was referring to the shopper who had berated a beer promoter in the non-halal section of a hypermarket recently.
Incensed Malaysians found out the identity of the shopper and have shared his personal details on social media and via messaging app WhatsApp, including information on his wife and child.
Teo said the public should not share pictures or details of his child, such as where the child studied.
“School is a place for all children. We should not allow any kid to be discriminated against or bullied in school,” she posted on Facebook on Tuesday (Nov 20).
“Let's end hatred in society, and please do not bring it (into) the school.”
Teo also stressed that what the shopper did was uncalled for and the promoter did not deserve such treatment.
“So let’s learn from the girl (beer promoter) and do not repeat the mistake of (the shopper),” she said
Teo's post received over 1,200 Likes and was shared over 230 times as at press time.
Many people have shared a video clip of the shopper berating the beer promoter for giving out beer samples in a hypermarket located in Ampang.
The girl remained calm even though the shopper scolded her and demanded to know if she was promoting the beer to “anyone”, including Muslims.
As the promoter was about to defend herself in English, he criticised her and insisted that she speak in Bahasa Melayu because this is “Bumi Melayu”.
The man then made an obscene hand gesture and spewed vulgarities at her before walking away.
The promoter could be heard in the video saying, “You are hilarious”.
Many people have condemned the shopper’s actions and praised the girl for her courage in standing up to him.
However, others have shared his personal details on social media, including his phone number, workplace, and pictures of his wife and daughter.
The man has deactivated his Facebook account, and deleted many pictures on his Instagram account.
