Man dies from injuries caught in explosion at laundrette

SHAH ALAM: A man who suffered severe burns when a dryer at a laundrette in Klang exploded succumbed to his injuries.

He died yesterday morning. His daughter is still receiving treatment.

The 43-year-old victim, who suffered over 73% burns, died at about 8.30am at Sungai Buloh Hospital, said South Klang district police chief Asst Comm Shamsul Amar Ramli.

“Police received a call from the victim’s son saying his father had died.

“According to doctors, the victim’s death was caused by multiple organ failure,” he said in a statement yesterday.

The blast on Oct 4 was reported to have occurred after the man pressed the start button on the dryer.

The daughter suffered 37% burns and is still undergoing treatment at Selayang Hospital, said ACP Shamsul Amar.

In JOHOR BARU, a five-year-old boy is in critical condition after he was burnt in a fire at his family home in Taman Nora near Ulu Tiram here.

Mohd Firdaus Mohamad Nasir suffered burns on his face, ears and arms and warded at the Sultan Ismail Hospital’s red zone.

Johor Jaya Fire and Rescue Department operation commander Mohd Sufian Mohd Lis said there were five children between the ages of one and seven in the house at the time of the incident.

Mohd Firdaus’ four other siblings sustained light injuries and are receiving treatment at Sultan Ismail Hospital.
