RM16.9mil lost to scammers this year, Cops arrest 30


SHAH ALAM: Ongoing operations against scammers have led to around 30 arrests.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Mazlan Mansor said that losses up till Sept 15 was estimated to be around RM16.9mil.

"Selangor police view these cases of 'Parcel Scams', 'Love Scams' and 'Inheritance Scams' very seriously. A total of 262 reports have been made, with around 216 victims in Selangor," he said at a press conference on Wednesday (Sept 19) at the state police headquarters.

The latest string of arrests comprised various syndicate members aged between 30 and 40.

The arrests were made in various locations within the Klang Valley through the month of August and September.

"Based on preliminary investigations, (we would say) around 13 cases have been solved with losses estimated at RM371,420," he said.

Comm Mazlan added that potential victims should check with the police should they have any doubts when getting calls.
