Wan Azizah: Good time for Anwar to return to politics

PETALING JAYA: It is a good time for Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim to return to national politics, says Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.

The Deputy Prime Minister and Women and Family Development Minister said this when asked whether her husband was being "impatient", in wanting to contest in the Port Dickson by-election.

"He has been in jail for 11 years now.

"When you talk about (him being) impatient, well, it is a good time (now) and he wants to contribute," says Dr Wan Azizah.

She said that Anwar has been denied a chance to be in Parliament before.

"It was taken away," she added.

When asked whether Anwar's presence in Parliament, along with herself and their daughter Permatang Pauh MP Nurul Izzah Anwar would constitute nepotism, she disagreed.

"Is it a problem? We were voted in by the rakyat (the public)," she remarked.

PKR president-elect Anwar is planning to contest for the Port Dickson seat that is being vacated by the incumbent, Datuk Danyal Balagobal Abdullah.

This is to facilitate his return to active politics and pave the way for him to eventually become the prime minister.
